July 2008 Releases

New Blu-ray, CD, DVD, and PS3 releases for the month of July that seem interesting to me for one or more reasons.

July 1

    Gangs of New York
    Point Break: Pure Adrenaline Edition

    • I don’t wanna sound like a queer, but I always liked this movie.

    Deltron 3030Deltron 3030 (re-issue)

    • If you don’t already own the original, which you should, go buy this. It’s a fukken masterpiece.

Lamb of God - Walk With Me in Hell

    • Documentary and other live footage.
    • 07/15: Picked it up at FYE after work tonight. It’s fucking badass. I couldn’t stop laughing at the Tiger Head part. I need one. I think most of the Disc 2 stuff is on the DVD that came with the Deluxe Edition of Sacrament though. At the end there is a melody and pictures of a woman with LoG then it says “In Loving Memory of Evie Carrano” so I googled the name. From LoG forums:

Evie Carrano was a beautiful person. She started with us as a merch girl and became our assistant tour manager and band assistant. Not only did she work for the band, but she was a dear friend to all of us….a sassy sister amongst the dirt bag brothers. She went to the doctor because she had a nagging ache in her shoulder and was diagnosed with Leukemia. It was a total shock to her and everyone around her. She was diagnosed on a Monday and by Tuesday of the following week she was gone. We all loved her and miss her dearly.

    Batman Begins

    • 07/29: Received my copy from Amazon today.

    BeckModern Guilt

    • I read something about it in Rolling Stone and whatever it was, it made me want to check this out. I think it had something to do with who else worked on the album.
    • Not sure what I think about it yet.

    Jean Grae & 9th WonderJeanius

    • It was leaked a long fucken time ago.

    MelvinsNude with Boots

    • 07/24: The opening riff reminds me of Led Zeppelin.

    Saul WilliamsNiggy Tardust

    • I’ve had it for a while now. It’s fukken tight. Produced by Trent Reznor. Fuck yeah!

    Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution

July 15

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest

    • If you think Nas want to stop saying the word “Nigger”, he don’t.

    OpioVulture’s Wisdom vol. 1

    NCAA Football 09

    Earth: The Biography

    Fakts OneLong Range

    • Some good features on here: J-Live, Grayskul, Tajai, Akrobatik, Rasco, Planet Asia, and others.
    • 07/24: It’s pretty good. I’ll probably pick it up.

    Nine Inch NailsThe Slip

    • Of course this is available for free download on NIN.com but having the CD is always nice.
    • 07/24: Ordered. Peace.

People Under the StairsThe Om Years

    Beowulf: Director’s Cut

    • I went to a Teriyaki place in Lakewood for lunch one day and they had this on. Looked pretty cool.

    Dark City: Director’s Cut

    • I always thought this movie was pretty cool. It’s creepy and dark, same as how I like my women. ;P

    The Lost Boys

    • I used to watch this movie all the time when I was younger.

    Lost Boys: The Tribe

    • They made a fucking sequel?

    • 07/16: Grabbed it last night. It’s fucking badass.
    • 07/29: Bought the deluxe CD+DVD from FYE after work.

April 2008 CD Releases

April 1, 2008

Anti-FlagThe Bright Lights of America

  • Not bad, definitely better than their last few albums.

SevendustChapter VII: Hope and Sorrow

  • Hope: most of the verses/riffs are heavier than usual; Sorrow: the choruses are so singy/pussy.

The Sword – Gods of the Earth

  • Badass; sounds like their first album but with more thrash.

April 8, 2008

The GrouchShow You the World
Living LegendsThe Gathering EP

  • They’re both pretty dope. I was beginning to wonder if the Legends were starting to fall off. As EvWu2 says, “Classic is not a classic album.”
  • If you preorder them from Access Hip Hop (I already have), you get a poster and a Drop Card for download of Legendary Music Vol. 2 EP. The posters will be different, however, I suspect the EP downloads will be the same songs, which is kind of lame.

Nine Inch NailsGhosts I-IV

  • It was pretty bizarre with a touch of Trent. Might put you to sleep though.

Lmno & Kev BrownSelective Hearing

  • I listened to it. It wasn’t bad as far as I can remember.

April 15, 2008

Children of BodomBlooddrunk

  • 04/24: I listened to it this evening. It’s pretty good.

OpethStill Life

  • This the third re-release of the 1999 album and contains new album artwork, and two discs including stereo and 5.1 remastered versions of the album and a live video of “Face of Melinda”. It’s a pretty good album.

RushSnakes & Arrows Live
Soilent GreenInevitable Collapse in the Presence of Conviction

  • I have yet to check either of them out yet.

And, it’s fucking tax day. Fuck the IRS. If you’re legally married for only the first 10 months of a year, you still have to pay taxes as if you were single all year.

April 22, 2008

AtmosphereWhen Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint that Shit Gold

  • Got it today at the gettin place. Listened to it twice. I like it, though not nearly as much as any of their previous offerings.
  • 04/22: I preordered the deluxe edition from Amazon and it only ended up being $9.99. Nice!
  • 04/23: I actually checked my mail today and it was in there. The DVD that comes with the deluxe edition is sick. It’s just a live show but it’s with a band and it’s badass. The more I listen to the album the more I like it.

Prodigy (of Mobb Deep) – H.N.I.C. Pt. 2

  • Listened to the original H.N.I.C. (Head Nigga In Charge) back when I was still in college. It was pretty good. I’ll have to check this one out.
  • 04/22: Listened to this yesterday. Reminds me of some old Mobb Deep. It’s pretty hard.

Lyrics BornEverywhere At Once

  • I haven’t checked this on out yet. Some guys at work were praising Lyrics Born so I need to check it out.
  • 04/29: Lahna bought it on Sunday. What I heard of it was good.

April 29, 2008

9th Wonder & BuckshotThe Formula

  • The production is amazing and it’s pretty good lyrically. I’ll have to pick this one up.

The RootsRising Down

  • I’m not a big fan of the Roots but I checked this one out. It’s pretty good. Has some bangin-ass beats on a lot of the tracks. I’ll give it a few more listens before I decide if I want to buy it or not.

TestamentThe Formation of Damnation

  • Their first studio album in 8 years. It’s a pretty badass album. Need to grab this one. Got it

  • I’m not a big fan of Portishead either, but I have liked some of their stuff I’ve heard so I checked this one out too. It wasn’t bad, it was really weird. Some of it was really good, some was just plain bizarre.
