CDs

    Deltron 3030Deltron 3030 (re-issue)

    • 07/15: Picked it up at FYE after work tonight. It’s fucking badass. I couldn’t stop laughing at the Tiger Head part. I need one. I think most of the Disc 2 stuff is on the DVD that came with the Deluxe Edition of Sacrament though. At the end there is a melody and pictures of a woman with LoG then it says “In Loving Memory of Evie Carrano” so I googled the name. From LoG forums:

Evie Carrano was a beautiful person. She started with us as a merch girl and became our assistant tour manager and band assistant. Not only did she work for the band, but she was a dear friend to all of us….a sassy sister amongst the dirt bag brothers. She went to the doctor because she had a nagging ache in her shoulder and was diagnosed with Leukemia. It was a total shock to her and everyone around her. She was diagnosed on a Monday and by Tuesday of the following week she was gone. We all loved her and miss her dearly.

June 2008 Releases

New Blu-ray, CD, DVD, and PS3 releases for the month of June that seem interesting to me for one or more reasons.

June 3

Blu-ray

    Semi-Pro: Let’s Get Sweaty Edition

CDs

    DisturbedIndestructable

    • I didn’t care for their last album very much. I’ll still give this one a listen.
    • 05/28: Meh. Better than their last one I guess. Seems like it should be a soundtrack to a video game starring the guy on the cover of the album.

    John 5Requiem

    • The guy is a pretty badass guitarist. I’ll check this out.
    • 05/28: It rocks pretty good, but then again I play guitar so I enjoy an instrumental album heavily based around the guitarist on occasion. Sounds to me like some riffs/solos are inspired by Petrucci, Tool, Cantrell, and others.

    OpethWatershed

    • 05/28: It’s certainly Opeth and they come again with their great blend of singing vs. death metal vocals. Great guitar work. Good stuff.

June 10

Blu-ray

    Natural Born Killers

June 17

CDs

The OffspringRise and Fall, Rage and Grace

    • Some of it rocks and there’s some interesting lyrical content: “I don’t know too much, but I know this: Shit is fucked up!”, but overall, pretty meh.

June 24

CDs

    AtmosphereSad Clown Bad Spring 12

    • You should have already pre-ordered this.

    Immortal TechniqueThe 3rd World

    • First solo album in years. DJ Green Lantern on production. I’ll definitely check this out.
    • 06/18: Just got it. I’ll listen to it tomorrow.
    • 06/19: I’m not black enough nor oppressed enough to enjoy this album.

    RZA as Bobby DigitalDigi Snax

    • New B-O-B-B-Y-D-I-G-I-T-A-L. Dope! I can’t wait to hear this
    • 06/18: Got it the other day. I’ve only listened to it once so far and it’s nothing special as far as I can tell.
    • 06/19: I listened to it again and it’s not bad, it’s definitely RZA, I’m not sure if I want to pick it up yet or not though.

DRM

“If the greedy record industry would embrace [DRM-free music] I truly think people would pay for music and consume more of it.”
-Trent Reznor

I agree with this. I buy tons of music. Most of which, I preview in its entirety in decent quality (192kbps+) before doing so. “In order for the general public to think it’s good music, they must have instant gratification from listening to it. Fuck that.”It seems the majority of people just hear a song on the radio that they can sing along with hearing it only once, and go out and buy the whole album. As it is now, you won’t catch me purchasing anything but CDs off the internet. If I only buy actual discs instead of DRM-infected files and the FBI decides “Hey, you only bought 75 CDs this year and you downloaded 150. We’re gonna take your computers.” then at least I’ll still have something to show for. Not that it’s my fault that 90% of the music that comes out today is shit, or that in order for the general public to accept it or think it’s “good” music, it must have instant gratification from listening to it. Fuck that. Most of the shit I listen to has me wondering what I think of it for the first few listens, then I usually end up really liking it. Those are the CDs I buy. I’m usually like “man, this CD is fucking strange” then a week later after listening to only that CD, I fucking love it. It doesn’t leave my car CD player for at least a month. Try doing that with any of these bullshit 1-hit containing CDs you hear about through advertisements and/or the radio. You’d probably end up disemboweling yourself during your commute one day. Fuck the radio. Fuck the media. Make up your own mind about what to listen to and/or buy.
